Are Aluminum Cups really better than plastic cups?

Certain stadiums are moving away from plastic and instead are offering an aluminum cup option. In this article, I will explore if it is really better and why they are doing it.

First, it was the Super Ball with their aluminum cups. Then came CU Boulder and Hard Rock Stadium. But are aluminum cups really better?

Here is a fact. In 40 years only 14% of plastic packaging wasn’t recycled. Not because it wasn’t recyclable but because it wasn’t collected for recycling.

Factoid: The system is F***, not the material.

Actually the energy used in producing aluminum is more than plastic. What this means is that if the aluminum cup gets thrown away in the wrong bin and never recycled, it was worse for the environment than plastic.

What are the chances of aluminum cups not being recycled? HIGH — We are running out of aluminum to make cans.

So what can stadiums do?

  1. Track all the cups
Tracking Codes on Cups

Using Globelet tracking technology you can make sure all cups are tracked. This allows for a 95% plus redemption rate from Globelet’s studies over 3000 events implementing reward-based systems.

2. Wash All The Cups
