So you need to register your startup.

You probably feel something like…

  1. This is incredibly confusing
  2. I don’t know who to trust
  3. I don’t know who to ask
  4. I don’t want to spend too much money
  5. Should I hire a lawyer?

My plan is that if you are reading this, you should be able to get the basics and make the right decision on what to do.

Here is a simple checklist of thing I will cover
1. You need a company name. (Just choose anything)
2. You need to choose a state to register in. (Delaware)
3. You need to choose the # of shares to authorize/issue

You have 3 options for getting the company set up

  1. Set it up yourself at Delaware.gov (I did this and I do not recommend it)
  2. Hire a lawyer. (Expensive and not needed)
  3. Use a service like Harvard Business Services (I wish I used this)

You need to hire a company like Harvard Business Services to register your company anyway. So to save time/money and just get them to do all the work. I did option 1 and I don’t recommend doing it yourself.

Now comes the part where I remind you that I am in no way qualified to offer legal
