How To Ship An Electric Vehicle from the USA to New Zealand

In 2023, my dad purchased an F150 Lightning in California, which I then shipped to him in New Zealand. It took two years for the electric ute/pickup to arrive from the initial order, and in January, it finally reached Auckland, making him likely the first person in New Zealand to own the F150 Lightning. Here are the key points I learned from this experience:
Below are the things I learned:
- Pink Slip and License Plates
Before shipping a new vehicle, you must wait for the pink slip and license plates to arrive from the DMV. This took about six weeks for us, and surprisingly, the license plates arrived before the pink slip. - Who to ship with:
We worked with Dev Dhanjee from Navia Freight in New Zealand. The freight cost was very affordable, and Dev simplified the process.
Here is a breakdown of the shipping cost:
Freight ex Richmond to Auckland in consol USD 2700.00 per vehicle
BMSB Fumigation (applicable at present) USD 300.00 per vehicle
Destination charges, including Customs clearance NZD 1175.00 per vehicle + GST
NZTA Border Check NZD 125.00 per vehicle + GST - Where do you drop the truck off?
Dev worked with a company called Famous Pacific Shipping. They are based in Richmond, CA. This was the only bad experience in the whole shipping process.
